Top A-Rated School Districts Near San Antonio: What the 2025 TEA Ratings Mean for Home Buyers

School ratings and home values are closely linked, and the Texas Education Agency just gave San Antonio-area buyers a fresh set of numbers to work with. On August 15, 2025, TEA released its accountability ratings for both 2024 and 2025 together. Among San Antonio-area districts, four earned an A rating for 2025: Basis Texas with a score of 93, Boerne ISD and Fort Sam Houston ISD each with a 92, and Randolph Field ISD also with a 92.

If you are shopping for a home right now, this information is worth putting alongside your must-have list.

Boerne ISD covers the city of Boerne and much of the surrounding Hill Country corridor northwest of San Antonio along I-10. Buyers who want a suburban or semi-rural feel without sacrificing school quality have long looked at this area, and the 2025 A rating reinforces why. Communities like Boerne itself, Fair Oaks Ranch, and parts of the Helotes-area fringe that fall within the district boundary tend to carry strong resale demand, in part because families specifically relocate to get into this district. If you are a seller in Boerne ISD, an A rating is a legitimate marketing point. If you are a buyer, understand that school quality is already factored into asking prices in many neighborhoods here.

Fort Sam Houston ISD and Randolph Field ISD serve students who live on or near their respective military installations on the northeast side of San Antonio. Fort Sam Houston is located on the northeast edge of the city proper, while Randolph Air Force Base sits in Universal City in Bexar County. Families connected to Joint Base San Antonio will recognize both names immediately.

For military buyers and renters, these ratings carry a specific kind of weight. Families on PCS orders often have limited time to research a new city and rely heavily on school ratings when making fast housing decisions. Knowing that both Fort Sam Houston ISD and Randolph Field ISD are rated A districts can make the neighborhoods and on-post housing communities surrounding these bases more attractive, and can give military renters confidence they might not have expected when landing in a large metro area.

Basis Texas, which operates as a charter school network, rounds out the local A-rated group with the highest score of the four at 93. Basis schools draw students from across a wide geographic area rather than serving a traditional attendance zone, so this rating is most useful to buyers who are willing to factor in commute or transportation when choosing a neighborhood. It is worth confirming current enrollment policies and campus locations directly with the school if this is part of your decision.

For home buyers in general, here is the practical picture. TEA accountability ratings are one signal among many, but they are a signal the market pays attention to. Districts with A ratings tend to attract more buyer interest, which over time can support home values in those areas. That does not mean every home in an A-rated district is a great deal, or that a home outside one is a bad buy, but it is a factor that shows up in demand.

If your budget does not stretch into Boerne ISD, or if you are not connected to the military communities served by Fort Sam Houston ISD or Randolph Field ISD, there are other strong districts across the greater San Antonio area. The ratings TEA released cover all local districts, and it is worth reviewing the full picture with your agent rather than focusing only on the top tier.

Timing matters too. We are in the final weeks of summer 2025, and many families who wanted to be settled before school started have already made their move. That means buyer competition may ease slightly in the weeks ahead, which could benefit anyone still looking in sought-after school districts. Sellers in A-rated areas should not read that as a reason to drop their expectations, but buyers may find slightly more breathing room than they would have found two months ago.

If school district ratings are driving your search, the best starting point is a conversation with a knowledgeable local agent who can map specific neighborhoods and ZIP codes to the district boundaries that matter to you. District lines do not always follow the geography you expect, and a few blocks can make a significant difference in which school your child attends.

The 2025 TEA ratings are fresh as of this weekend. Use them while they are current.
