2025 School Ratings Are Out: These San Antonio-Area Districts Just Earned B's

Texas released its 2025 A-F school district accountability ratings, and seven districts in and around San Antonio earned B's. If you're shopping for a home right now—or thinking about listing one—this is exactly the kind of information that should be on your radar before you make a move.

The districts that earned B ratings this year are Alamo Heights ISD and Comal ISD, both scoring 87; Somerset ISD at 84; Lackland ISD and New Braunfels ISD, both at 81; Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City ISD at 81; and Medina Valley ISD at 80. Each of these districts serves communities that are very much part of the greater San Antonio housing conversation, from established urban neighborhoods to fast-growing suburbs.

For home buyers, school district ratings are one of the most durable factors in a purchase decision. Even buyers who don't have children often care about ratings because they reflect on long-term property values and the character of a community. Buyers with school-age kids, of course, weigh them even more heavily. Knowing which districts scored where gives you a sharper lens for evaluating neighborhoods right now, while the market is still active heading into the fall.

Alamo Heights ISD covers the city of Alamo Heights, which sits inside Loop 410 on the northeast side of San Antonio. Homes in Alamo Heights ISD's boundaries have historically carried a premium, and a score of 87 reinforces why buyers continue to compete for listings there. If you're considering neighborhoods like Terrell Hills or Alamo Heights itself, this rating is good news for both your child's education and your investment.

Comal ISD, also scoring 87, covers a large swath of the Hill Country corridor, including much of New Braunfels and surrounding areas north of San Antonio along Interstate 35. This is one of the region's most active growth corridors, and Comal ISD's B rating adds another reason families are relocating there. New Braunfels ISD also earned an 81 this year, meaning buyers in that city have two solid district options depending on which part of town they're looking in. Knowing which ISD a specific address falls under in New Braunfels matters—your agent can help you verify that before you commit.

Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City ISD, scoring 81, serves the communities of Schertz, Cibolo, and Universal City on San Antonio's northeast side along IH-35 toward Austin. This corridor has seen substantial growth over the past several years, with new construction and master-planned communities drawing buyers who want suburban space with access to both San Antonio and the growing employment base along that corridor. An 81 B rating keeps SCUC ISD competitive and continues to support strong buyer demand in those ZIP codes.

Medina Valley ISD earned an 80, the lowest B on the list, and serves communities to the southwest and west of San Antonio, including parts of Castroville and the Lytle area. Homes in Medina Valley ISD's boundaries tend to be more affordable than those in some of the other rated districts, making it worth watching for buyers who want value without entirely leaving a B-rated district.

Somerset ISD, at 84, and Lackland ISD, at 81, round out the B-rated group. Somerset ISD serves a rural community southwest of San Antonio. Lackland ISD is a smaller district closely tied to Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, primarily serving military families in that area.

For sellers, a B or better rating in your district is a legitimate selling point. Buyers are actively filtering home searches by school district, and a strong rating can shorten your days on market and support your asking price. If your home falls in one of these seven districts, make sure that information is front and center in your listing.

For renters considering a longer-term move toward homeownership, school ratings are worth factoring into where you choose to put down roots. Renting in a B-rated district gives you time to learn the community while you save and plan, and it keeps your future purchase options in districts with demonstrated academic performance.

One practical reminder: district ratings apply to the district as a whole. Individual campuses within any district can vary. If a specific elementary, middle, or high school matters to your decision, ask about campus-level ratings alongside the district score. Your real estate agent can help you map school boundaries to the specific streets and addresses you're considering.

These ratings are current as of today and reflect the state's most recent accountability cycle. As you weigh your options this fall, use them as one piece of a complete picture—alongside commute times, home prices, HOA situations, and everything else that makes a neighborhood the right fit for your life.
